Carol was amazing. Please hold her in your hearts and perhaps pick up a book of hers to read. She will be missed but her words will carry on with her spirit for many years to come.
Respectfully,
Nicole

Sad news from the literary world |

I am devistated to learn that my favorite writer, Carol Shields, passed away last night of breast cancer in Victoria, BC. There are tears in my eyes, a lump in my throat and a great deal of sadness in my heart. She was a brilliant woman, someone who influenced my life and my writing. I find some irony in the knowledge that her passing fell on the same evening that I was able to listen in on a few amazing moments of Duran's Costa Mesa show. These are two signifigant moments for me.
Carol was amazing. Please hold her in your hearts and perhaps pick up a book of hers to read. She will be missed but her words will carry on with her spirit for many years to come. Respectfully, Nicole |

I'm sorry to hear that Bean. You know, when we went to a book shop there in Houston, Gail and I saw the book "Unless" by her and made us think about you.
May she rest in peace *hugs Bean* |

*sits with SC for a moment of silence*
*hugs Nic tightly* Isa and I did see a couple of her books, and we discussed getting one, but didn't have a clue which to get. We decided to wait until we could ask you which one would be best to start with. |

Thanks guys. I was able to print off some news stories here at work today to make a little book of stuff about her.
As for a book to start out with, I would suggest 'The Stone Diaries' or 'Larry's Party'. She was brilliant. |

It's my duty to promote her work! I look forward to when you look them up to see what you think.

Well I went to the used bookstore today and I couldn't remember which books I was supposed to pick up, so I chose two that looked the most interesting: "The Stone Diaries" and "Dressing Up For The Carnival".
(And I still have to read a book Isa bought me while she was here. Anne Rice's "Belinda"! |
